So I will admit I haven’t been feeling 100% since I got back from my vacay in January, coming back from paradise to cold england doesn’t do wonders for the body. For those of you who live in England or a country with a cold climate will know how rubbish the winters are, dark, rainy, cold and dreary. So we need all the help we can to perk us up, so until the sun arrives I thought I would help you out with a little boost. some liquid sunshine Every morning which I have been taking shots of, this powerful mix contains such amazing ingredients.
First up we have the amazing ginger which can help with many things such as nausea, menstrual pain, muscle soreness, flu and it has anti-inflammatory properties the list goes on. Another bad boy is Lemon these balls of yellow are great for the skin, a good source of vitamin C and minerals, help with digestion and weight loss. Lets not forgot the all mighty Turmeric it has a natural anti-inflammatory compound in it called curcumin, helps to repair damage in the body and helps to fight against many diseases. so i know y’all have been oh so patiently waiting for this recipe and as promised I have a little gift for you. this dish is a traditional jamaican dish one that mum would cook occasionally, would be served at parties and on the menu at every caribbean food shop. i would typically not be interested in this dish when I was younger and I would always ask for something else. also I have never cooked this dish in my life, but hey I make magic with food so I was confident i could pass with flying colours. i have been a little more experimental with meat replacements this year because it mixes things up a little, I like to create with food so why not. so one day i stumbled across this interesting item in the mock section at my local wing yip (chinese supermarket). The texture is crazy its mostly made up of mushrooms and soya bean protein. i couldn’t believe how realistic the texture is stringy and chewy just like the real stuff. now some people may question why do you want to eat something that is imitating meat when you don’t eat meat. well my answer to that is I used to enjoy meat more so chicken if i’m honest, but i didn’t enjoy the way it made me feel. the purpose of replacements is so that you can get that satisfaction but with no harm to animals or your health simples. anyway that is enough rambling lets get in kitchen and start cooking!!!
So tis almost that time where we give gifts, hang with the fam and stuff our faces silly. Well I’m sure y’all know by now I’m down for anything where good food is involved, so I got a little something for you. Now Ive been making brownies for a hot minute played around with the recipe and done a few variations on flavour but these were hands down the best. These are perfect for Christmas time with the family, Chocolatey moist brownies paired with gooey caramel and chewy marshmallows food heaven at its finest. I used to love me a flump back in the days, so being able to get my hands on vegan marshmallows well I just had to throw it down in the kitchen with them. Right let’s get brownie creating but don’t eat them all save some for Christmas morning at least.
Yes it’s that funny looking stuff that many turn their noses up at, but will happily eat what once was a living breathing thing. I admit it strange stuff but it is so versatile and a protein source, I have used it to make many things but I must say this is fave!! as a plant muncher it is easy to get hooked on this stuff because sometimes you want something a little more. I say moderation is your best friend as with any other food. tofu initially it can be a tricky thing to get right, i failed many a time in previous years. but now i can give you my fail proof recipe, when you get it RIGHT it’s so yummy and you will never turn your nose up at tofu again!
So it’s safe to say that summer has officially left us the fresher air is flowing, colourful leaves decorating the streets and plans of movies nights with lots of yummy foods are in play. Heating is on, thick socks and extra blankets have come out of hiding. It’s also that time where we get to cover up and conceal those food bellies. Indulge a little because food is pretty awesome in my opinion BUT LET’S NOT PIG OUT 🙂 . Autumn is that time where the flavours get deeper bursts of cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg fill the air so here is my little gift to y’all, my take on a classic pecan pie with a twist…..
So it’s official summer is sliding out and autumn is moon walking in. bring on the comforting foods that are warm, yummy and you just want to dive right into. of course i have your back with the answer to a delicious breakfast that is perfect for the colder days. It is filling, creamy, nutritious and very easy to make, also you can pimp it out how ever you like. I present to you Quinoa porridge, okay let’s drop some of the nutritional benefits first. Quinoa pronounced keen-wa ISN’T a grain but actually a seed, it is a complete protein that has all of the essential amino acids that we need. It is packed with protein, fiber, iron, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium and potassium. Pretty good stuff it will keep you full and fuel you nicely. Okay so enough of all that, let’s get to the important part the making and eating……
I don’t know about you but don’t you just love it when you find exactly what you want?! So let’s talk about cereal yeah you know that good crunchy stuff, supposedly a breakfast food but fits perfectly with those snack needs. I don’t buy cereal unless it’s oats or the occasional small box of gluten free cereal.
